The "Oculist" Sarcophagus:
King David (?)

2nd or 3rd century
Marble Sarcophagus
Outside the Basilica of San Vitale, Ravenna

This image is on the left front of the "Oculist Sarcophagus" in Ravenna. A figure seated on a throne with a harp surely suggests King David, but the date is very early. Also, the image on the right front includes a figure of Hermes with his caduceus, perhaps not consistent with a Christian or Jewish burial.
